It’s located mostly in Madison County, in northern Alabama, and extends west into Limestone County and is part of the Huntsville metropolitan area and borders Huntsville on nearly all sides. Madison is the second-largest city north of the Tennessee River and is just 15 miles south of the Tennessee border.

Madison is host to many festivals year-round, including the Madison Street Festival, Madison Christmas Parade, A 4th of July Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, a farmer's market, and an annual 5k/10k race.
Madison is home to numerous parks with playgrounds, ball fields, and other outdoor activities. The Hogan Family YMCA in Madison features a gym, wellness and aquatic center, a walking track, ping-pong, foosball, martial arts and dance lessons, basketball courts, and an indoor soccer facility. Toyota Field is home to The Rocket City Trash Pandas, a Double-A are a Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.
Greater Madison County is one of Alabama's premier recreation areas for outdoor enthusiasts, with many trails for hiking, biking, and more. Norfolk Southern rail lines run through Madison, and the Port of Huntsville, which includes Huntsville International Airport as well as a rail cargo hub, sits just to the south of Madison.
